Simply Tutoring began in The Woodlands in 1999 when Sue and another teacher/friend could no longer be in the classroom due to personal and family health issues*.  As Sue and her friend began tutoring students privately, they soon realized there was a great need for a way to find quality tutors in The Woodlands area, so they began adding other local tutors to their group. Believing that tutoring has far-reaching benefits for all students, they wanted to offer a price range that more families could afford, so in addition to certified teachers they hired high school students, college students, and other degreed adults. Their philosophy was to pay tutors well, offer affordable tutoring, and provide on-going support for tutors with monthly workshops/gatherings.

*Sue’s 10-year-old son, Matt Strickland, was diagnosed with brain cancer in 1998. He fought the disease until the age of 14, and during that time he created the company’s logo that includes his drawings of Tutor Tom and Bright Spot! His memory and contributions to the start-up of Simply Tutoring will live on in many ways.
