Meet a Simply Tutoring Tutor - Shanna Gonzales
Background
Shanna grew up in California and graduated Cum Laude from California State University, Northridge. She was valedictorian of her high school class and student body president in 8th grade. Success in school came with a price as she struggled with making friends because she was so focused on her education and working fulltime at a movie theatre in 11th and 12th grades. Shanna remembers her teachers being very supportive. They served as a model for her own love of teaching and helping students be successful. She acquired her teaching certification for EC through 8th grades and ESL.
Current availability
Now Shanna has over 12 years of experience teaching in the classroom and tutoring in Texas; she is currently a 2nd grade math/science teacher at Rice Elementary in Conroe ISD, but she can tutor most subjects in pre-K through 8th grade. Shanna actually tutored my own daughter years ago to help her master her math facts in elementary school. My daughter needed movement and high interest activities to stay engaged and to soak up the content. Sometimes Shanna would have her jumping on our backyard enclosed trampoline while reciting math facts, and other times they would work hard on math problems on paper and then take quick breaks to add another drawing to an on-going picture they created on a whiteboard. Shanna has many strategies for working with students who have ADHD and dyslexia. She can assess a student’s needs quickly and think on her feet to adjust a lesson where needed. Besides spending time with her husband, twin high school daughters and middle school son, Shanna enjoys cooking and gardening.

She is available during the summer Monday through Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 to 2 p.m. at your home, her home in Woodforest, or a neutral public location.
